February 11–15, 2016 | Build a Killer Author Platform
San Miguel Writers Conference, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
Kerry and I are thrilled to be teaching abroad next year! Join us at the San Miguel Writers Conference, which has a killer lineup of faculty. In this workshop, we demystify the concept of “author platform” and you’ll begin to feel excited about promoting yourself and your work. Learn to leverage the many strengths and attributes you already bring to the table as an author. Determine what reach you currently have, both personally and professionally. You’ll leave with a concrete plan to build the platform you need to sell your book.

Family mattersMarch 24, 7–9pm | Family Matters: Works in Progress
Hugo House, Seattle, WA
It’s another rollicking night of family dysfunction, but this time it’s coming from outside the house! Join me and six local writers—including Allison Ellis, Jennifer Haupt, Jane Hodges, Darrell Kirk, and Kristine Lloyd—as we read brand-spanking-new creative nonfiction, all centering around various ideas of family. The magnificent Claire Dederer (my personal spirit animal when it comes to memoir) will host the event and participate in the reading as well. The event is free and the bar will be open serving beer, wine, and maybe even a special cocktail cooked up for the evening.
